Apply to DISH and help shape the future of reusables in Central Oregon!
Shoutout to the Bend Buzz for spreading the word regarding our missing reusable dishware kits! We’re still looking for them, by the way…
The Environmental Center’s Rethink Waste Project is excited to launch Reuse Deschutes, an initiative to replace single-use serviceware with reusables throughout Central Oregon’s food service sector.
To help guide this initiative, we are seeking diverse input and expertise from community members (like you!) and eateries who will be using the program.
Which brings us to...DISH: Diverse Input on Sustainable Hospitality.
Are you a “plugged-in” community member and/or a restaurant owner in Central Oregon who is passionate about community, equity, and sustainability? If so, we would love to have you join!
Check out our DISH post to learn more and apply. Questions? Email the Reuse Deschutes Coordinator, Emma Yetter, at [email protected].

✈️ First Look at the Redmond Airport Redesign
Want to get a sneak peek at what the Redmond Airport will look like once all this pesky construction is complete? The project website now includes a fancy video of the planned changes, which includes a redesigned waiting area, restaurant, and even (gasp) jetways! This will be a welcome addition for those rather chilly February evenings that previously required a walk on the tarmac.
🍷 Cork and Barrel weekend continues
Miss the big kickoff night of dinners with Cork & Barrel yesterday? Not to worry, as their biggest event is still to come as the wine and food fest continues through the weekend. On tap for tonight is Sip - the wine (and some beer) tasting event where you can mingle with fellow wine enthusiasts and chat with the winemakers about your favorite terroirs.
The weekend of wine finishes out with the Grand Cru party on Saturday. As of Thursday evening, there were still a handful of tickets left for the Grand Cru and plenty for Sip.
🎵 Fairwell Festival kicks off
FairWell Festival is back at the fairgrounds for year #3 in the high desert. The music fun kicks off on Friday with Tyler Childers as the headliner. On Saturday, it’ll be Sturgill Simpson taking the main stage. If you’ve been dragging your feet, there are still a few tickets available. Last I heard, the parking was way better last year, or you can just hop on a party bus and leave the driving to someone else.
🏡 Tour of Homes Weekend #2
If you missed out on touring the latest and greatest in Bend real estate last weekend, you’re not out of luck. COBA tour of homes is kicking off for its second (and last) weekend. The tour is totally self-guided, which means you can imagine what life would be like at one home or challenge yourself to see how many stops you can make across the three days.
BUSINESS HAPPENINGS
🐶 Street Dog Hero Gala: Are you a fan of pups? (This is Bend, so the answer is obviously yes.) Then why not help support a wonderful local organization that helps care for pups in need while also partaking in an evening of music, dinner, drinks, and puppy cuddles? Street Dog Hero is hosting their annual fundraising Gala on Friday, with every dollar raised supporting their mission of serving dogs in need around the world and in our own backyard through rescue, adoption, wellness, spay/neuter, and education.
✈️ One airline departs, and another moves in: Within the span of one newsletter, we learned that one airline is departing Redmond (and the entire West Coast), and another is quickly (kind of) moving in to take its place. Starting in March, Breeze Airways will begin offering service to Las Vegas, Burbank, and Salt Lake City (this one includes a stop along the way). If you act fast, they are offering $49 introductory fares.
