If you're a Pacific Power customer in Central Oregon, you've probably already noticed the steady climb in your electricity bills. Brace yourself - another significant rate hike is coming in January 2025, with increases proposed between 11.9% and 17%.

But here's the good news: Bend's abundant sunshine offers a perfect solution to break free from these rising utility costs.

As winners of The Official Community Choice Awards for Best Solar Energy Company in Bend in 2024, National Solar has earned their reputation by delivering complete solar solutions since 2009 - from initial consultation to final installation.

They provide comprehensive service, handling everything in-house:

  • Professional system design and engineering

  • Complete solar array installation

  • Battery storage systems for 24/7 energy security

  • Expert guidance on tax incentives and savings from the Energy Trust of Oregon

Start your solar journey today to beat the 2025 rate hike. With typical installation timelines, investing in solar now means your system could be up and running before Pacific Power's next big increase hits.

🛶 Miller’s Landing revitalization

Bend Park and Rec released plans for a revitalization of Miller’s Landing Park, which would improve river access and restore the riverbank along the area. The plans include a roller ramp, which would make it easy to launch larger watercraft like kayaks. Construction is slated to begin soon and finish in the summer of 2025.

🧅 Support local farmers at Fill Your Pantry

Fill Your Pantry, a bulk farmers market pop-up, will take place on Saturday from 11 AM to 3 PM at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds. Bring a wagon or an extra set of arms to carry your bags, as the goods at the event are sold in larger-than-normal increments (think 20-lb bags of onions and 25-lb boxes of beef). This is your one last chance to support your local farmers and stock up on locally-grown goods for the winter.

And make sure to follow FYP on Instagram, as they have a ton of great info on how to store your produce so it lasts well into the winter.

BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

🥣 A new soup spot opens up: Bend’s newest soup and pasta restaurant, Central Oregon Soup Company, opened up on Monday on Bend’s east side. With takeout and delivery options, this is the perfect spot to beat the fall chill.

🪛 Screw your shoes: Those of you who continue to run outside throughout the winter in Central Oregon know that the ice can be downright treacherous. Enter Footzone and their annual Screw Your Shoes event.

Bring your favorite pair of running shoes down to their store on Sunday evening, and they will install (for FREE) ice screws that will keep you sure-footed all winter long. I do this every year and typically use an older pair of shoes that I’ll be recycling after the winter is over, as the screws do put holes into the bottoms (don’t worry, though, as they don’t poke through into your foot!)

🎂 Happy birthday to Old St. Francis School: McMenamins Old St. Francis School is celebrating a pair of birthdays this weekend. The school itself is turning 88 years old, and it is also celebrating its 20th year as a McMenamins property. To celebrate, the school will be hosting live music, releasing two special beers, and holding history tours on Saturday.

For cross-country ski fans, your best bet will be Dutchman for the foreseeable future. Further grooming at Meissner is on hold until the next round of snow arrives.
