Everyone loves to recycle! It's easy, it makes you feel accomplished, and we all have the best intentions that our used stuff can have another life after we are done! Unfortunately, that's not the case in Deschutes County, as not everything is recyclable. For an updated guide on what you can recycle, click here.
Before we recycle anything, the most sustainable thing we can do is to reduce how much we buy and consume, reuse what we have, repair what is broken, and only then opt for the recycling bin! Recycling requires resources and energy, so it should be the last option for a product's end of life.

🥽 Juniper’s Outdoor Pool Opens
Waterslide season is here! Juniper is opening up its outdoor activity pool for the season on Saturday! The outdoor pool will be open Saturdays and Sundays for a few weeks before transitioning into daily operations once we get a little further into June.
🍽 Last Call for May Dinner Club Signups
Our next dinner club get-together is happening on Wednesday, May 27th, at 6 PM, and since we’re not sending out a newsletter on Monday, this is your last reminder to sign up and join in on the fun. You can grab your seat here.
🗳 The Votes Are In
Central Oregonians showed up for the primary elections that took place on Tuesday, with nearly 45% of ballots returned. Some of the big items to note were voters shooting down the gas tax and both Jamie Collins and Rick Russell getting more than 50% of the vote for the county commissioner. By getting over 50%, they win their seat and don’t have to run in the general election in November.
BUSINESS HAPPENINGS
☕ Dilly Dally 3rd Anniversary Party: Come celebrate the 3rd anniversary of Dilly Dally — one of my favorite coffee shops to grab a cortado and work for a few hours. They’ll have live music, flash tattoos, screen printing, and plenty more. It’s a great way to kick off the afternoon before heading down to the Primus concert. Friday 1 - 6 PM Dilly Dally Coffee
☕ Sisters Coffee Jackstraw cafe grand opening party: Sisters Coffee at Jackstraw is open, and they're throwing a proper party to celebrate. There will be dancing with Get Up & Groove, free bags of coffee with a drink or food purchase, pop-up shops, and more! Friday from 8 AM Sisters Coffee Jackstraw
🎒 Portland Gear grand opening: The Old Mill is getting a new tenant as retailer Portland Gear is officially opening on Saturday. The doors open at 10 AM, and the first 50 folks will get a free t-shirt! They’ll also be raffling off gear all day long.
🍔 Midcity Smashburger’s last day on the east side: Midcity Smashburger is closing up shop on the east side as they prepare to move to the new Basecamp pod behind Powder House. They’ll be open through Monday and then will reopen when Basecamp officially opens their doors (likely sometime in the next few weeks).
💃 Studio 61st Grand Opening: Bend's newest dance studio (they were previously Seksé Fit) opens its doors at the Box Factory for a grand opening celebration. Studio 61st offers classes in contemporary, hip-hop, jazz, Latin, and pole dance for all skill levels. Saturday 6 PM Box Factory
🍻 Crosscut Warming Hut 6-year anniversary party: And last but certainly not least, Crosscut Warming Hut is celebrating six years in business. Count backwards, and that was a rough time to open! Here’s to six more years of lodge vibes and beverages around the fire pits. They’ll have live music, drink specials, and a special collab brew with Sunriver Brewing. Saturday 12:30 - 8 PM Crosscut Warming Hut
