❄️ Winter Driving Is Here! ❄️
This past weekend’s icy pile-up on Cascade Lakes Highway was a stark reminder that winter road conditions in Central Oregon demand extra care. Snow, black ice, and packed roads can lead to dangerous situations, even for the most prepared drivers.
If you’re heading to Mt. Bachelor for a pow day or just navigating slick city streets, here are a few tips to stay safe:
Drive slowly and keep extra distance between cars.
Carry chains or traction tires.
Keep a winter survival kit in your car with essentials like blankets, food, and jumper cables.
Double-check your auto insurance coverage to ensure you’re protected.
Need help? Call us today at 541-640-8080, and we’ll review your policy to keep you covered wherever the winter roads take you.

👀 Googly eyes go national
Bend has earned some national notoriety for the bandit who has been adorning our local roundabout art with comically oversized googly eyes. Mentions on the Late Show and in the NYTimes have brought some extra eyes to our mountain outpost. Meanwhile, the City of Bend has pleaded that the bandit stops using adhesives that damage the art pieces.
❄️ Tracking the slick streets
The City of Bend has launched a new online map to track which roads around the city have been plowed and/or sanded following a snowfall. The map lets locals know what roads have been plowed as well as how long it has been since the last pass. This is perfect for those icy days when you want to take your 2WD rear wheel drive car with bald summer tires up to the mountain.
🚂 The Train Man is back at the library
One of Bend’s most popular holiday attractions is back at the downtown Bend Library. Michael the Train Man has been bringing his impressive model trains to the library for a quarter century, and this year’s version is open to the public today (Tuesday, Dec 17th) and then Thursday, December 19th through December 23rd. Make sure to check the schedule for viewing times and expect a crowd!
