🚵 New trails are coming to the west side forests while southeast side trails see lengthy closures
The Forest Service announced big plans for new trails on the west side of Bend. The massive undertaking would include decommissioning miles of unauthorized trails and constructing new hiking, fat biking, and mountain bike trails from Dutchman all the way down to the Deschutes River Trail. You can see the full list of proposed changes here.
Meanwhile, a large swatch of national forest land on the south side of town will be closed for at least a year for fire mitigation work. This closure will include popular recreation spots like Horse Butte trailhead, Bessie Butte trailhead, and Boyd Cave. Pour one out for the cyclists who flocked here while the west side trails are still mired in snow, ice, and mud.
🍔 Burgerville is coming to town…location TBD
Fans of Pacific Northwest burger chain Burgerville were treated to a surprise when job postings for a new Bend location showed up online recently. An address was also listed, but it turns out it was a mistake, and an official location has not yet been chosen. But Burgerville still does plan to open its first Bend outpost sometime this year.
🐉 Dragon dancers across Bend
White Lotus Dragon Dancers are making their way down from Portland and will be performing across town on Saturday. Here’s the lineup of stops:
Wise Mountain Medicine - 11:15 AM
Jia Asian Street Kitchen - 1 PM
Tomi Mart - 1:30 PM
Chi Chinese & Sushi Bar - 4:30 PM
BUSINESS HAPPENINGS
🥐 A new bakery opens in the Old Mill: M’s Bakery is officially open for business in the Old Mill District. We stopped by last week for their soft opening, and it’s amazing how they have transformed this former Jimmy John’s space into a stunning bakery. Some areas are still under construction, but there are still plenty of tables that are perfect for enjoying a kouign-amann and a cortado.
🎱 Grand opening party at Rally Recreation: Rally Recreation is celebrating their grand opening with free games and light refreshments from 4 - 8 PM on Friday, January 17th. Swing by and see if you can take home the title of ping pong champion.
