TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Bend! Tomorrow is the day to find out who your little one’s teacher will be for the upcoming year. Which means we’re only one week away from the start of the school year.

In today’s Bend Buzz:

  • 🌻 Sunflower maze is open

  • Trio of business intros

  • 💼 New jobs in Bend

Let’s get to it.

🌻 Sunflower maze is back at Well Rooted

The weather is looking downright fall-like this morning, so we figured now was the perfect time to share the news that a quintessential late summer/early autumn activity is back. Well Rooted Farms has opened its annual sunflower maze for the season. Here you can get lost in the flowers (but hopefully not too lost) and, once you’re done, hop on a wagon ride or pick your own bouquet (or veggies) from the farm.

BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

🍖 Manzanita BBQ is on the move: Manzanita BBQ is pulling up their stakes from Ballers & Brews and will be moving partway across town to the Waypoint Hotel off of 3rd St (the spot where Midcity Smashburgers used to be located). More to share soon on who will be taking their place at B&B.

Business callouts: We always try our best to keep on top of new businesses around town, but sometimes a few can fall through the cracks. So even if they aren’t brand new at this point, we still want to give them their due. If you’re looking for a new coffee spot (or some beans for a home brew) or some tasty Turkish food, here are some places to check out.

  • Eky’s at Bunk & Brew - Bend isn’t exactly known for its diverse food selection (although that has changed A LOT over the last few years), but Eky’s food truck is helping to change that. Located at Bunk & Brew, Eky’s serves up authentic Turkish dishes for lunch and dinner six-days-a-week (they’re closed on Tuesdays). I haven’t tried them yet but have heard several rave reviews.

  • Redemption Coffee Co at Elevation - The south side of town has a new-ish coffee offering with Redemption Coffee Co. Their custom coffee trailer is set up at Elevation (formerly the Bend Factory Stores for those who missed the name change memo). They’re open from 7 AM - 12 PM every day except Tuesday.

  • Theo’s Longhouse Strong Coffee - Theo's Longhouse Strong Coffee is an Indigenous-owned coffee company rooted in Warm Springs, Oregon. Every purchase supports community impact in Warm Springs, including youth programs, food banks, and cultural events. You can find them locally at Newport Avenue Market.

TOGETHER WITH SHREDDER BEND

The mountain opens in less than three months (hopefully)

Will your kids be ready? Shredder Bend is an indoor ski and snowboard school where kids ages 1 to 10 build real skills year-round in a warm, controlled environment. Small groups, the same coach every week, and all gear included. The 8-week Fall Session starts September 14.

Here, they'll build confidence and comfort in their gear and learn all the basics like stopping, turning, and putting on those darn ski boots before ever facing a cold mountain morning, which means less stress for everyone (parents included) come winter.

New families: Shredder Bend is offering Showcase classes on September 10-13. These trial classes are the perfect chance to check out the space and see what Shredder is all about. No experience needed.
