Good morning, Bend! I guess it’s time to get out on the river for some early season paddling.

In today’s Bend Buzz:

  • 🚧 Franklin Ave underpass to close (in the fall) for construction

  • 🥕 New farmers market coming to the south side of town

  • 🧸 Wild Child closing in April

Let’s get to it.

🚧 Franklin Underpass Closing for Six Months

I’ve really missed sharing news with you all about upcoming (or ongoing) road closures, so I’m ecstatic to be back at it (🙄). Last week, the city shared that they will be closing the Franklin Ave underpass for a total of six months to make repairs to drainage (hopefully that means no more flooding), improve pedestrian access, and add lighting. The first closure will take place from September through Thanksgiving, and then work will resume in January and run until the project is complete.

💁 Highlighting Local Orgs

In addition to sharing news and events happening around town, we also like to shine some light on local organizations doing good things for the community. Whether that is helping to raise awareness, promoting fundraisers, or any other way we can lend a helping hand.

If you’re a local non-profit looking for help spreading the word, feel free to reach out to me any time at [email protected]. These spots are not paid and, while sometimes it can take a week or two to find the space, we’ll make sure to find space for you. With that said, here’s a quick spotlight on a few places that have reached out in the last few weeks.

🚋 Commute Options: Commute Options is a local organization working to increase access to transportation options. They have launched a Get There rewards program, where businesses can allow employees to earn points for choosing eco-friendly travel options. The points can then be redeemed for gift cards from a variety of national retailers. If you are interested in signing up your business for Get There Rewards, you can contact them at [email protected] or visit their website for more information!

Assistance League of Bend Dream Trip Raffle: The Assistance League of Bend is currently selling tickets for their dream trip raffle, which includes prizes like trips to Lisbon, Tuscany, Costa Rica, and more! Proceeds from the raffle go towards helping children and adults dealing with poverty and cancer in Deschutes County. Tickets will be sold through April 15th, with the raffle taking place at 11 AM on April 17th.

BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

🥕New farmers market on the south side of town: The south side of Bend will be getting a new farmers market as the Bend Factory Outlet stores will be launching a Friday afternoon market this summer. There are no details yet on the exact times or start date, but we’ll be sure to share them when they are announced. Also, if you’re a local grower, farmer, rancher, or maker, they are looking for vendors.

🍩 A new donut option launches: The Bend donut scene is getting a glow-up as the owners of Dear Mom Cafe and Good Egg are launching a (for now) pop-up donut business. They soft-launched over the weekend by giving away 100 of their filled brioche donuts (flavors included strawberry cheesecake, matcha strawberry, salted caramel, and mango sticky rice) at The Grove on both Friday and Saturday. I stopped by on Friday to check it out, and there were maybe a dozen folks there. By Saturday, the word had gotten out, and the line wrapped halfway around the building (if you were there then my kids likely served you a donut). Make sure to give them a follow on Instagram to keep up to date on their next pop-up (late edit - it’s happening today at Dear Mom).

🧸 Wild Child closing next month: The Old Mill will be losing a good one next month as Wild Child announced that they will be closing the first week of April. This boutique shop carried kids toys, clothing, games, and more. No word on what may be moving into the space next.
