🏊️ Bend has a national champion
Local swimmer Campbell McKean took home the gold in the 50-meter breaststroke over the weekend at the National Championships in Indiana. With the win, he’ll next be headed to the world championships in Singapore this summer. The summer Olympics are still a few years out, but it’d be fun to cheer on a local athlete again (no pressure!).
⚾️ Summit takes the 5A state baseball title
The Summit Storm baseball team hit the road and took home the state 5A title in a matchup against Canby. With the conclusion of the baseball and softball tournaments, that wraps up the high school sports programming for the summer. So enjoy your time on the river until fall seasons kick off!
🎓️ Congrats to grads around Bend
It was graduation day over the weekend for most Bend seniors, and we want to give a huge congrats to everyone as they celebrate this milestone!
BUSINESS HAPPENINGS
🧖 Gather Sauna House moving to Hanai: Gather Sauna House is on the move to a new location on the east side. Usually located at Riverbend Park during the shoulder and winter months, this mobile sauna business is setting up shop on the east side for the summer (and beyond) at Hanai. While this location won’t have access to the river, they’ll still have cold plunges for that hot/cold rejuvenation. And for fans of the riverside location, worry not, as they will be back there again in October.
🥯 Bo’s Falafel reopening as Bo’s Bagels: Good news/bad news depending on your culinary preferences. Bo’s Falafel has officially rebranded to just Bo’s (it was going to be Bo’s Bagels until lawyers got involved 😢). Changes include (as you can probably guess by now) dropping the falafel side of the business and going full steam ahead with bagels.
🏃♂️ Remedy Sports Medicine open house: Remedy Sports Medicine is hosting an open house on Tuesday, June 10th, where they will be showing off their shockwave and laser therapies from 2 - 5 PM, followed by a meet-and-greet with food, drinks, and giveaways from 6 - 8 PM.

Summer in Bend is buzzing, so here’s your cheat sheet for the weekend:
🐴 All Weekend: The rodeo rolls into Sisters on Wednesday and runs all weekend long. While the event is sold out, you can still snag standing room only tickets 2 hours before the performances.
☀️ Friday is full of good vibes. Start wholesome with Kids Math Night or a dreamy Father’s Day Picnic at Tumalo Lavender. As the sun dips, head to Celebrate the Sun Dance Party at Portello or roll into Canapalooza for a celebration of all things craft beer. Bonus beats: Precious Byrd, Styx, and Funk Around and Find Out bring the groove.
🚴♀️ Saturday is stacked. Head out onto the gravel with Ladies AllRide or cheer on the Cascade Cycling Classic Downtown Criterium. Hit the links (or just enjoy some music and food) at The Ghost Tree Invitational, and Silver Moon’s Block Party carries it into the night. And don’t miss Pigs on the Wing at the Tower for your dose of psychedelic nostalgia.
🍩 Sunday is for dads and deep cuts. Treat pops to Donuts for Dad at On Tap, then close out the weekend with Peter Frampton, Barrington Levy, or a sunset DJ set with Ben at Bar Rio.

LOCAL SPOTLIGHT
This week’s local spotlight is NWX burger spot, Mountain Burger. But this spotlight isn’t focused on the food (and tasty milkshakes) they offer. Instead, we’re taking a bit of a deep dive on what they offer to the community as a whole.
Did you know that Mountain Burger has made over $70,000 in charitable donations to 80+ local organizations? Almost every week (and sometimes even twice a week) they donate 10% of their sales to an organization that have included schools, non profits, the arts, etc.
My kids’ school has been a benificiary as I know a lot of schools in town have been as well.
So if you’re hankering for a burger and want to know that part of the bill will be going to a good cause you can check out their upcoming Give Back days here.
*This isn’t a paid spot but instead an opportunitiy to highlight folks making cool stuff, doing good in the community, and making Central Oregon a better place to live. If you’ve got a person, organization, or event you’d like to see featured here you can always drop me a line at [email protected] or just hit reply to this email.
