TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Bend! Welcome to June!

In today’s Bend Buzz:

  • 🚵 ODOT warns bikers to stay off McKenzie Pass Highway

  • 🍣 Bamboo Sushi finally opens

  • 📆 Upcoming events for summer

Let’s get to it.

— Derek Carlson & Emily Elaro

LandWatch is Central Oregon’s environmental watchdog

Since 1986, we’ve guided land use decisions to protect our wildlife, forests, rivers, farms, and communities. We hold the line against unsustainable development, build bridges for wildlife, and make sure our cities and towns grow in ways that create complete communities.

This summer, we're celebrating four decades of planning for Central Oregon’s livable future with a Field Series exploring places we’ve played a role in preserving and shaping: the Metolius River Basin, the Bend to Suttle Lake wildlife corridor, and the Bend Central District. Register now to join us on a free guided day in the field.

Join our local livability movement for people and place by following us, signing up to stay in the know, and taking action to protect our special part of the world.

🚥 Red Light Camera Tickets Begin

After a slight delay, tickets are now going out for folks who speed through or run red lights at three intersections around town. Bend Police said they issued around 45 warnings per day since the cameras were officially turned on back in late April. That’s a lot of expensive tickets so maybe consider slowing down a little or just waiting for that next light.

🚲 Want to Bike McKenzie Pass? ODOT Says Not So Fast…

ODOT is reminding folks that McKenzie Pass is officially still closed to both cars and pedestrians (bikers included). They say that heavy equipment is working on clearing the roads and removing trees and that bikers are posing a risk to the heavy equipment working along the road. Consider yourself warned…

📆 Music and Festivals Coming this Summer

Given how many folks were caught offguard by SummerFest happening this weekend, here’s a heads up on some notable events coming to Central Oregon this summer.

BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

🍣 Bamboo Sushi has finally arrived: Three years in the making, Portland-based Bamboo Sushi has finally opened its long-awaited outpost here in Bend. As of right now, they are only taking walk-ins, although reservations should come soon. You can find them in downtown Bend at 125 NW Oregon Ave.

🛵 Cascade Motorsports is on the move: Cascade Motorsports has said goodbye to its location of the last 26 years and moved…but just a few blocks over. Over the weekend, they closed their old location on Cady Way and, as of tomorrow, will be located at the old Wildhorse Harley building on Sherman Rd next to Highway 97. They’ll be hosting a grand opening party soon, and we’ll keep you up to date when that happens so you can check out the new space.

TOGETHER WITH FLUX THERMAL LOUNGE

There's always something new at Flux.

Bend's only hydrothermal lounge keeps getting better. This month, two new ways to find your people:

  • Ice Breaker (June 11) — A social soaking night built around hot tubs, cold plunges, and easy conversation. No name tags, no phones, no awkward speed dating. Just a room full of people open to meeting someone new. 6:30 - 9 PM

  • Queer Night (June 17) — Flux launches its first monthly Queer Night. Come soak, connect, and celebrate community.

Also new at Flux: they've partnered with Flamingo Room! Rent a robe and sandals and get a drink next door, all for just $10. That's cheaper than buying a drink there! Flux also now serves Ablis CBD beverages and, when the weather warms up a touch more, they'll be serving up frozen drinks.

Check them out at flux-lounge.com. Your first soak is just $20.
