TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Bend! We’re only two weeks away from school starting up again! So if you’ve got kids around the house, this is your warning to cram in as much summer fun as possible before we return to our fall routines.

In today’s Bend Buzz:

  • šŸ‘· Pine Nursery upgrades nearly complete

  • šŸ„– Panera is a go

  • āš™ Children’s Museum FUNdraiser

Let’s get to it.

— Derek Carlson & Emily Elaro

250 in the West: The Story Continues This FallĀ

As the nation marks the Declaration of Independence's 250th anniversary in 2026, High Desert Museum invites you to explore its legacy right here in the region we call home. The yearlong series 250 in the West continues this fall with three evenings of dialogue you won't want to miss.Ā

October 19 — Professor Michael Holloman (Colville Confederated Tribes) and historian Patricia Limerick discuss the many meanings of patriotism in the American West.Ā

November 17 — Dr. Kasey Keeler unpacks American Indians and the American Dream at 250, challenging assumptions and reimagining the story for today.Ā

December 8 — Audrey Peterman closes the series with a look at how National Parks hold America's diverse story together.Ā

Each talk brings renowned voices, little-known histories, and community conversation to the Museum. Registration required; tickets $8–$12 (20% discount for members). Save your seat!Ā

šŸ‘· Pine Nursery upgrades are nearly complete

As a frequent runner of the trails around Pine Nursery Park, I’ve been watching as the upgrades at the park have slowly taken shape. And at this point, much of the work is done and ready for public use. The upgrades include a full-size basketball court (this might be the nicest public court I’ve seen in town), 8 new pickleball courts that are open to the public, a new paved path from Deschutes Market Rd, lighting along the trail that circles the park, and some very large lights on the baseball fields (these are still getting finished).

BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

āš™ CMCO is hosting a FUNdraiser this weekend: Want to help the Children’s Museum of Central Oregon raise a little money and have some fun at the same time? They’ll be set up at the Base Camp Food Cart Pod this Sunday from 1 - 4 PM. In addition to their usual kid-friendly, mobile museum exhibits, they’ll also have a raffle, a prize vending machine, and much, much more!

šŸ— Feathers & Flavors moving to Silver Moon: A little food truck housekeeping as wing (and protein ice cream) cart Feathers & Flavors is moving into their new location at Silver Moon. They had previously been located at Ballers & Brews.

🄯 Permits show Panera will be opening at the old Cracker Barrel space: Turns out all those rumors were true. Applications filed with the city show that Panera (which is owned by the private investment firm JAB Holding Company) will be opening its first Bend location at the old Cracker Barrel building on the north end of town. No word yet on opening day, but it’s a good thing there are plenty of other locally owned bakeries to visit in the meantime.
