Planning for the Future? Now’s the Perfect Time to Consider Life Insurance

As we approach the end of the year, it's the ideal time to reflect on your goals and take steps toward securing a safe and stable future in 2025. Life insurance is one of the most valuable ways to protect what matters most—your loved ones. Here are a few important things to keep in mind:

  • You’re not getting any younger: The younger you are, the more affordable life insurance tends to be. Your future self will thank you for locking in those rates now.

  • It’s like a safety net for your loved ones: From covering the mortgage to funding education, life insurance steps in when it matters most.

  • Single? We’ve got you covered too: Life insurance ensures your final expenses or debts aren’t passed on to family or friends.

  • Your life, your plan: Policies are customizable, so you can find coverage that fits your life perfectly.

🪙 Chip in on Giving Tuesday

After a weekend of scoring sweet deals on gaming systems and knock-off toys on Amazon, it’s time to give a little back to the community here in Bend. Today is Giving Tuesday and is a great time to donate to your favorite local charity. A quick search for “Bend Giving Tuesday” will return a number of local nonprofits who are running campaigns with matching fund offers.

BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

⛷️ Another ski area opens early: Mt. Bachelor isn’t the only local ski resort cashing in on all this early-season snow. Hoodoo Ski Area had its earliest opening in 18 years over the weekend. With all its frontside lifts spinning and nordic trails groomed, it should be a great year up on the mountain.

🥕 Boundless x Fibonocci CSA collaboration: Two of our favorite local farms, Boundless Farmstead and Fibonacci Farm, announced that they were joining forces with their CSA offerings this upcoming season. This means there will be more options and more pickup times available, but be warned, these CSAs always sell out fast!

🎣 Customer appreciation day at Fly & Field: Local flyfishing shop Fly & Field Outfitters is hosting a customer appreciation event for all customers, old and new. There will be catered food, drinks, and plenty of discounts on their gear. Thursday 4 PM

FIND THAT PERFECT TREE

Did you know that for the price of $5, you can head out onto virtually any of our surrounding national forest lands and cut down your own Christmas tree? All that is needed is a permit (you can buy them online or at a number of stores around the area), a saw, some rope, and plenty of hot cocoa.

While the snow has arrived early in the mountains, there are still plenty of dry roads up to around 4,000 feet, which means that many of the best spots for trees are still easily accessible.

Half the fun of cutting down your own tree is finding that perfect spot, so we’ll give you a few tips on where to get started.

The forest roads out by Suttle Lake are loaded with fir and pine trees. The higher in elevation you go, the better the trees tend to be.

Skyliners and the Cascade Lakes Highway are another popular option and, as an added bonus, will get you high enough in elevation that you can have that quintessential snowy Christmas tree hunting experience. Just make sure to stay off the groomed ski trails while dragging your tree back to the car.
