🥧 No more late night pie

Two restaurant closings, big plans at Smith Rock, and a prestigious award for a local brewery

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Bend! Let’s hope this roundup of news and events is as satisfying as your favorite fall treat.

In today’s Bend Buzz:

  • 🍜 Two restaurants close their doors for good

  • 🦵 Sunriver Brewing takes home a major award

  • 🧗 Big plans at Smith Rock State Park

Let’s get to it.

Bend’s dopest teeth whitening service

A few weeks ago I put out a call on Instagram asking for the BEST accounts to follow around Bend.

One account that was mentioned over and over again was Glossed Whitening Bar.

It turns out Amanda (the owner of Glossed) has an incredibly loyal set of customers. This is probably because, #1, she is an awesome person, and #2, because she runs an incredible business, brightening smiles around the high desert.

Amanda is a registered dental hygienist, which means she uses professional-grade teeth whitening power. Gone are those annoying strips, and in is a quick visit to her hip studio (which, I might add, smells like lemons instead of that weird dentist office smell).

P.S. - The link above already includes the discount code, but if you want to share this deal with your friends, the code is buzz50  🤫

SNAPSHOTS

If you’re a fan of fall treats (let’s be honest here, who isn’t??), then the Source Weekly just dropped their most important story of the year - a roundup of the best autumnal doughnuts from around the high desert. From apple cider doughnuts at Sister’s Bakery in Sisters to Richard’s cinnamon cake doughnut, there is no shortage of incredible offerings to sample before the season switches over to winter.

Smith Rock State Park revealed plans for a major overhaul of its visitor services areas. These include a stunning new visitor center, improved parking, new trail connections, and new restrooms. The park hopes to break ground sometime in late 2025 or early 2026.

Fill Your Pantry, the annual event that connects local farmers with locals to stock up on meat and produce before the long winter ahead opened up preorders over the weekend. If you have your eye on, say, a 20# bag of magic molly potatoes, then you’d best jump on it early, or they may not be there by the time the event rolls around.

BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

🍺 Sunriver Brewing takes home the gold - Sunriver Brewing Company has had quite the year when it comes to awards, and recently, they took home perhaps the most prestigious of them all as they were named the brewery of the year (5,000-15,000 barrels) at the Great American Beer Fest. So stop in at one of their numerous locations around the high desert and make a toast to their new collection of gold.

🍜 Chomp Chomp closes their doors for good - Chomp Chomp, the downtown Japanese & American bar, announced over the weekend that they were closing their doors for good. We’ll miss the bowls of ramen on cold winter days downtown.

🥧 Late night pie at Shari’s is no more - Shari’s Cafe, on Bend’s north end, also announced over the weekend that they were shutting down. Now we’ll have to wait and see who steps in to fill the late-night pie void in town.
