TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Bend! Just a quick heads up that I’ve heard from several places that still have summer camp openings. So if that whole work from home and take care of the kids plan isn’t quite going as well as hoped, then you can always check out our camp guide to find some last-minute ideas.

In today’s Bend Buzz:

  • 🚧 More road construction

  • 🤝 Meet Your Neighbors update

  • 🅿 Parking changes at Westside Yard

Let’s get to it.

— Derek Carlson & Emily Elaro

Your Home Doesn't Have to Burn to Have Fire Damage

Wildfire smoke can permanently damage fabrics, electronics, HVAC systems, artwork, insulation, and even drywall if it isn't professionally cleaned.

Many homeowners think opening a few windows is enough to clear the air. Unfortunately, it isn't.

Smoke residue is acidic. The longer it sits, the more it can damage your home, belongings, and indoor air quality. Sierra James Construction follows the IICRC's industry standards for fire and smoke restoration to ensure your property is cleaned safely and thoroughly.

Our Triple Master IICRC Certified team specializes in:

• Removing smoke, soot, and stubborn odors with professional-grade equipment
• Removing standing water, firefighting foam, and fire retardant after suppression efforts
• Carefully packing, inventorying, and restoring salvageable belongings
• Rebuilding and restoring your home to its pre-loss condition

Even if flames never touched your home, smoke may have.

Don't wait until the odor becomes permanent. Trust Central Oregon's leading disaster restoration team to help you recover safely and quickly.

🚧 Construction starts along Cooley Rd

I’m pretty sure the city saw all your complaints about the traffic along Empire and decided to say, “hold my beer and watch this” (editor’s note: they didn’t actually say this). Another road construction project is kicking off in NE Bend, as a sewer improvement project will result in lane closures and delays along Cooley Rd and Ranch Village Rd (the roundabout area near Sky View Middle School).

🤝 Meet your neighbors

Well, the response to our idea about getting folks together to chat with their neighbors was a resounding YES (89 people said they’d like to host!), so we’re gonna make this happen. I’ll be doing some work on my end to get everything set up and will be in touch soon with info on signups, timing, etc.

In the meantime, to answer a few questions folks had:

  • Meetups will take place in folks’ front yards/driveways/common areas, so no need to host folks in your home.

  • There will be zero hosting requirements other than being present to chat. Don’t worry about providing food, drinks, chairs, etc. If folks want to bring something, that’s on them. The goal for this is to make it as low a commitment as possible to encourage folks to attend.

  • Hosts will need to walk around the neighborhood and drop off flyers at their neighbors’ front doors.

  • The number you invite would be up to each host. I’m thinking 40 or so flyers for each host, but am open to thoughts on that.

  • Thank you to the numerous people who sent me info on grants available to groups that provide opportunities to get the community together. The timeline for those is a little long for what I have in mind, but if you run or work at a local business and want to help sponsor this project, I’d love to chat and see if there are some ways to work together. Think your logo on the flyers, landing page, and some newsletter callouts. You can hit reply to this email if interested.

BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

🛶 Brooks St Boathouse opens: Pine Tavern has opened its new seafood restaurant/event space concept called The Brooks Street Boathouse. The space is located directly next to Pine Tavern and is open Tuesday - Sunday for lunch & dinner. Want to check out their menu? You can do so here.

🚗 Parking changes at Westside Yard: Visitors to businesses at Westside Yard (Hook & Plow, Viaggo Wine, Still Vibrato, etc) have 41 new parking spots to choose from as the parking lot expansion work is complete. One big change, though, is that the lot now requires parking validation using a similar process to the Box Factory, where you have to scan a QR code in the parking lot for 15 free minutes and then validate your parking in one of the businesses for an additional 75 minutes.
