🎡 The Deschutes County Fair & Rodeo kicks off
Corn dogs, cowboy hats, roller coasters, and rodeo thrills—what more could you ask for? It’s Central Oregon’s biggest summer bash, and it’s starting TODAY at the fairgrounds.
The Deschutes County Fair runs from Wednesday through Sunday, with the doors opening at 11 AM each day.
Headlining the music stage this year will be Brothers Osborne on Wednesday, AWOLNATION on Thursday, Diplo on Friday, Trey Songz on Saturday, and finishing off the weekend is La Original Banda Limon on Sunday.
There’s also the rodeo, demolition derby, 4-H & FFA exhibitors, and so, so much more. You can check out the full schedule of everything happening here.
🔥 Thunderstorms spark fires across the Cascades
I think we can all agree that it has been an incredibly pleasant summer so far in Bend. All that can change with one stroke of lightning, and it showed after Monday evening’s thunderstorms. Within a day, there were 14 reported fires from lightning strikes, with the largest being the Piper Lake Fire.
This is a good reminder to always be fire-ready during the summer months. A few websites and apps that we use to track fires and smoke include:
Watch Duty App - Live map of active fires, evacuation maps, air quality, and more
centraloregonfire.org - Info on local fires, prescribed burns, and air quality
Purpleair.com - Live air quality maps
Text alerts - Text “COFIRE” TO 888-777 for live alerts on wildfires and prescribed burns
Just after I finished writing the above section, a Bend Buzz reader sent over some info about a fire emergency plan course that she has put together. If you’d like to check it out and better prepare yourself and your family in case of an emergency, you can find more info here.
