Good morning, Bend! I hope everyone is able to get out and enjoy these last couple of spectacular days while the leaves are in peak leaf peeping form. Cause the weather this weekend looks…not great.
In today’s Bend Buzz:
🏃 A new race down (and back up) Pilot Butte
🌮 Wandering Ranchero opens
⛸️ Ice skating is back at The Pavilion
Let’s get to it.

SPONSORED BY ALPENAURA PLASTIC SURGERY
A (Re)Introduction to Dr. Jourdan Carboy and Alpenaura Plastic Surgery
It's been over nine months now since Dr. Jourdan Carboy launched her practice, Alpenaura Plastic Surgery, so we figured it might be time for a quick reintroduction.
Dr. Carboy is a board-eligible plastic surgeon (and fellow Alaskan!) who completed her integrated plastic surgery residency just over the pass at Oregon Health & Science University. At Alpenaura, she specializes in facial rejuvenation, rhinoplasty, facial feminization, body contouring, and craniofacial reconstruction. She is also the only plastic surgeon in Central Oregon to offer Motiva® implants.
When she’s not in the OR, you can find her sewing her own workout gear, exploring Bend’s backcountry, or spending time with her husband, son, and their three dogs.

⛸️ Ice Season is Back at The Pavilion
Lace up those skates for (ice) skating season at The Pavilion. There are many ways to enjoy the ice, including open skate hours, adult and kids’ ice hockey, curling, figure skating, and more. Last year, I took a learn to curl class with the Bend Curling Club and had a ton of fun! They still have a few spots left for this year’s classes if you want to give it a shot!
📬️ Property Tax Notices are Here
Like the Jelly of the Month club, this is the gift that keeps on giving. Check your mail or your inboxes, as this year’s property tax notices are out. If you live in Deschutes County, you have until November 17th to pay the full bill and take advantage of the 3% discount.
BUSINESS HAPPENINGS
🌮 Wandering Ranchero opens next to Palate Coffee: New food truck Wandering Ranchero has moved past the soft opening phase and is now open, serving up what looks to be tasty Tex-Mex breakfasts. They will be open from 7 AM to 2 PM, seven days a week, as well as some special evening hours on Friday and Saturday. I happen to have a meeting at Palate on Thursday morning, so this timing couldn’t be better…
🏃 Fiercely Local launches a new twist on the local 5k: You might remember Fiercely Local from their Bend parks scratch-off poster, and now they’re back with a new take on your everyday road race. Their first event, The First Freeze, happens on November 8th and challenges participants to run or ride down and back up Pilot Butte six times (by bike) or three times (on foot). Sounds tough? Here’s the twist: every lap has to be faster than the one before. Start too slow and you’ll run out of time; start too fast and you’ll flame out before the finish. Good luck to all who attempt it.
🏗️ What’s going into the old Cracker Barrel building: Normally, I try to stay away from rumors and only share info once it’s been verified, buuuut this one has generated A LOT of discussion online recently. So here’s what we know so far (plus a rumor or two). The old Cracker Barrel building on the north side of town (which previously was slated to become a commercial kitchen space) is being subdivided into three separate commercial spaces, including one with a drive-through. Tenants for this space have not been publicly announced, but a few “in the know” folks claim that one of them is Panera. I know many are excited about this possibility — just remember, we already have several excellent, locally owned bagel and sandwich shops in town. Moving on…
