If you want to take in the soothing waters of Sawyer Park over the next few months, you’ll need to plan on hoofing it (or pedaling there), as the parking lot is closed for the next few months for construction. The parking lot is being relocated closer to the street, but the park will remain open during the project’s duration.

Deschutes Public Library is reimagining its annual Literary Ghost Walk as Fall Into Community, an evening of connection, creativity, and joy. The event takes place Wednesday, October 28, from 5–7 PM at the Central Library, with free fall activities for all ages. The library will be filled with intentional activities that give the community a safe, creative space to express themselves, as well as a place to just be. Folks are invited to come as they are or to get dressed up in their Halloween best. Many beloved elements of the Library’s Literary Ghost Walk will return, including live music, crafts, and the spirits of famous authors. A few new surprises and an expanded footprint will allow for even more stations throughout the building. Come get creative, meet the literary greats, and take a wander through the library.

🧪 The Children’s Museum gets a new name (and future permanent location): We shared a little about this last week, but here’s our official announcement. The Children’s Museum of Central Oregon is now Ruckus: A Children’s Science Museum. They’re currently popped up for the month at Discovery West and, looking longer term, they have secured a permanent space in Bend’s Central District. They’ll still be popping up around town as the new space gets built out, and we’ll share more when we know more about a future opening date.

🖌 CeramiCafe to open at the Old Mill: The Old Mill is getting a paint-your-own pottery studio, as CeramiCafe will be moving in sometime next month. The studio will be located on the second floor above Lush, Budd + Finn, and Tumalo Art Co.

Bend to Balance is back October 30 through November 1 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Oregon and Embark. Three days of breathwork, yoga, sound healing, and more, led by 60+ local facilitators.

The weekend opens and closes with two free events, no ticket required. Friday night is a Kirtan, and Sunday wraps with a Closing Circle led by Smokey and Garin of the Klamath Tribes.

📖 Poetry Reading w/ José Olivarez: Join award-winning poet and acclaimed performer, José Olivarez, for a poetry reading that explores themes of immigration, identity, belonging, and uplift. 5:30 PM COCC - Wille Hall

🌃 Watercolor Dusky Skies: Join watercolor artist Melanie Whedon at Freak’N Art for a workshop where you’ll practice blending colors through the wet-on-wet method to create a dusky sky, and then finish the piece with a dry-brush technique to create a tree line silhouette. 5:30 PM Freak’N Art
