⛷️ Gliding through winter

School choice lottery season, a new local app for outdoor enthusiasts, and parking downtown hopefully gets a little easier

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Bend! We hope everyone has been out enjoying the sun the last few days!

In today’s Bend Buzz:

  • 🎒 School choice lottery season opens

  • 📲 A new local app for connecting with outdoor enthusiasts

  • 🚗 The downtown parking garage gets an upgrade

Let’s get to it.

— Derek Carlson

The worst thing happened earlier this week: Austin listed an amazing home on the north side of Bend that we were all set to feature in this ad. But before we could hit publish, the owners accepted a very competitive offer—in just two days.

Lately, there’s been a lot of talk about the market slowing down in Bend, with homes sitting for weeks or even months. But with the right team (hint: Austin), you can feel the relief of a quick, low-stress sale—turning ‘what if’ into ‘under contract’ in just days.

Thinking about selling? Give Austin a call at 541-316-8025. He’ll give you an honest opinion and help you position your home to get top dollar, even in this uncertain market.

And for those of you who may not be looking to make a move and are just market watchers, check out his 2024 Annual Housing Reports for Bend and Redmond. They're filled with insights and trends, beyond the median sales price, that cover buyer and seller activity, changing inventory levels, and why prices were relatively 'sticky.’"

🎒 School choice option lottery

January is school choice lottery season for the Bend-La Pine school district. During this time you can enter the lottery for a chance to enroll your student(s) at one of the many choice and dual-immersion schools in Bend. The lottery period opened on January 2nd for all grades and runs through January 24th for grades 1 - 12 (the kindergarten lottery doesn’t close until March 24th). You can read more about the lottery process, timelines, and school options here.

🚘️ Downtown parking garage upgrades

They say you’re not a true Bendite until you’ve gotten stuck behind a line of cars trying to exit the downtown parking garage while the gate refuses to open. But relief is on the way as the city is making upgrades that should (hopefully) improve the exit process.

And while we’re on the topic of parking, feel free to fill out this survey to let the DBBA know what you think of the parking experience in downtown Bend.

♻️ More info on the new Recycle Plus program

The wonderful folks at The Environmental Center (thanks, Kavi!) pointed out that both Cascade Disposal AND Republic Services are offering the new Recycle Plus program for hard-to-recycle items. Take a look at this blog post from The Environmental Center for more info on hard-to-recycle items and how you can help reduce your waste footprint.
