Local mountain biking trail site, BendTrails.org, announced a few months ago that they were looking for someone to purchase the site and take over management going forward. If that didn’t come to fruition, they planned on going dark as of June 1st. That day has come, and the site has, in fact, gone dark. For those looking for trail updates, places to report downed trees, and other mountain biking info, here are a few options.
Report downed trees - COTA, Bend Trails FB Group, Sisters Trails

⛺ Summer Camp Guide
The end of the school year is almost here. If you’re like us and have seriously delayed planning those last few summer camps, we’ve got you covered. Our list includes over 50 camps, and we’ve added a few last-minute entries, including middle school ultimate frisbee camp, COCC middle schooler camps (writing, baking, gaming), and an academic camp.
BUSINESS HAPPENINGS
⛵ Elk Lake Resort opens for the season: The summer season kicks off at Elk Lake Resort on Thursday as they officially open their doors, docks, and beaches to Central Oregonians in need of a little lake therapy. Their lodge will be open daily from 7 AM - 9 PM.
🍔 MidCity Smash Burgers closes for good: MidCity Smash Burgers has announced that their temporary closure is now permanent as they will not be relocating to the new BaseCamp pod. In a town where it’s becoming ever more difficult to find a cheap bite to eat, we’ll certainly miss them and their low-priced burgers.
✏ Summer Writing School launches: Want to keep those creative juices flowing all summer long (and see your work published)?? Seneca Jakosky (you’ll see her name again later in this newsletter) has launched a series of four-week writing workshops that will take place at Howl Goods. Each month will feature a different theme and, at the end of the summer, your (and your fellow classmates’) work will be published in a book that will be sold at Howl!
🏋 Mountain West CrossFit opens its doors: The north end of town got a new workout spot as Mountain West CrossFit opened its doors on Monday. The space is located in the old Knecht's Auto Parts and Bargain Bros building near the DMV and offers CrossFit, Hydrox, 24/7 open gym access, sauna, and a cold plunge. They’ll be hosting an open house soon, or feel free to drop in to any class to check out the space.
🏐 Velocity Volleyball Academy opens: Have a middle or high schooler who is looking to improve their volleyball skills over the summer? Velocity Volleyball Academy will be offering small-group (max 12 athletes) clinics for both boys and girls this summer and school year.
