SPONSORED BY BEND LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
Still deciding whether Bend Leadership Academy is worth checking out? You’re not alone — and hearing from families already there can help.
One BLA parent shared this after enrolling their daughter:
“Our daughter has been homeschooled for the past five years, and she really did well with it. As she’s gotten older, though, we started talking about a different approach.
We wanted a place where our daughter could strengthen her critical thinking skills, learn more about leadership/entrepreneurship, use her artistic talents, have real discussions, and learn about health and wellness, too. BLA has truly checked all those boxes.”
For families coming from homeschooling or traditional classrooms, Bend Leadership Academy offers something different: a thoughtful, inspiring environment where kids are active participants in their learning, not just sitting still and absorbing information. Leadership, entrepreneurship, creativity, real discussion, and wellness are all part of the day-to-day experience.
If you’ve been curious but hesitant, this is your sign to take a closer look. Tours are available, and seeing the school in action can make all the difference.

🎸 More Summer Concert Announcements
After a bit of a hiatus for the holidays, the amphitheater has been announcing concerts left and right over the past week or so. New shows on tap for this summer include Nikki Glaser on 9/13, Levity & Tape B on 7/18, Primus on 5/22, Lord Huron on 6/4, Luke Bryan on 8/6, Tedeschi Trucks Band on 8/8, Lindsey Sterling on 8/1, Goose for two nights on 8/21 & 8/22, and Trevor Noah on 7/22. Tickets for the last five shows go on sale on Friday, January 30th, both online or (if you want to save a few bucks) in person at the Old Mill ticket office.
💧 Plunge & Pitch
Have an idea for a creative project, community concept, passion pursuit, or something wonderfully weird? Join us at Flux Thermal Lounge on Wednesday, 4th at 5 PM for a plunge and pitch. Wondering what the heck a plunge and pitch entails? It’s simple (albeit chilly), you hop in Flux’s cold plunge pool and have 60 seconds to pitch your idea. At the end of the evening, the other guests will vote on their favorite, and the winner will go home with a little pocket change and bragging rights.
Want to join? You can sign up here.
Don’t want to pitch? Come hang out with other local creatives and entrepreneurs in the hot tub (no cold plunge necessary).
BUSINESS HAPPENINGS
🌲 Pac Nor Westy to close: PNW-themed apparel store Pac Nor Westy announced on Instagram that they will be shutting down. They are running an 80% off sale on all remaining merchandise online, and, per Google, their Box Factory location is now closed, as well.
🏨 Shilo Inn closes…but maybe only temporarily: Workers at the Shilo Inn off of O.B. Riley Rd arrived to find the doors locked and a note taped to the door saying the hotel is temporarily closed. We’ll see if they reopen or if the hotel ultimately ends up changing hands. No word yet on whether Real Taste of India and their delicious lunch buffet are still open.
🍩 Seen in the window: Finally, some good news for the Galveston corridor! A sign is up at the building at the corner of Galveston and NW 14th St (the old Bo’s location) announcing that a new donut shop called Powder Hound Doughnuts will be moving in. Info is limited so far, but if you want to follow along, they have an Instagram account set up.
