TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Bend! To the many, many folks who replied to Friday’s newsletter looking for volunteer opportunities (first off, thank you!), Connect Central Oregon has put together a volunteer resource page with a list of organizations who will be providing support in the days, weeks, and months ahead.
In today’s Bend Buzz:
🫂 Community support opportunities

This Week, the Market Can Wait
I usually use this space to talk about Bend real estate. Not this week.
If you're looking for a way to help, in addition to the current GoFundMe fundraisers, the City of Bend asked the Oregon Community Foundation, an Oregon nonprofit, to set up a Rapid Response Fund for the short-term needs of families and the community.
The market will still be here next time. For now, let's take care of each other.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT
I’ve written and erased this section at least half a dozen times now as I search for the right words to say. So here goes - I want to give a huge shoutout to Bend for how folks have showed up in response to an unimaginably terrible day last week. Seeing people raise funds for the families, businesses opening their doors to provide space for folks to connect, restaurants offering up free meals, and strangers being there to give a hug when you need it, has been truly heartwarming. Bend is an amazing place because of the community, and you all have shown that 100x over these past few days. And I know you will continue to do so in the weeks and months to come.
Below is a roundup of opportunities to donate to the Silver Rail families, the school, rapid response fund, and more, as well as more businesses who are offering childcare, free family events, and fundraising opportunities.

🥬 Fill Your Pantry is coming up next month (and preorders opened yesterday)
Farmers Market season may have come to an end last week, but you still have one more opportunity to fill your pantry, freezer, and fridge with locally grown, raised, and baked food. (And help to support our local businesses through the long winter season, while you’re at it).
Fill Your Pantry takes place every year at the Deschutes Fairgrounds and is a way to buy locally grown goods in bulk directly from the farmers. The event is happening this year on November 7th, and preorders went live yesterday. Note that preordering is not mandatory, but it does ensure you get the goods you want.
⛔ Columbia Park & Gilchrist Bridge closing for construction
Construction at Columbia Park (that’s the one with the pirate ship) begins today and brings the closure of both the park and Gilchrist Bridge through the summer of 2027. During this time, Columbia Park will be getting a new river access point, riverbank restoration, accessible pathways, plazas and site furnishings, and the footbridge over the Deschutes will be replaced.

I mentioned this on Friday, and it bears saying again, as I’ve already removed a number of events from my original list that have been cancelled. If you’re looking to attend any of these events, I’d highly recommend checking the company’s socials to make sure they’re still happening.
