🎵 Music in Bend and Sunriver

The Sunriver Music Festival kicked off on Sunday evening at the Tower Theatre in downtown Bend. Over the next two weeks both Bend and Sunriver will play host to a series of concerts that range from Pops to classical to violin recitals. Tickets are selling fast, so if you want to see one of these wonderful performances, you’d best grab one sooner rather than later.

🌉 A design has been chosen

The Bend City Council has chosen a design for the proposed pedestrian bridge that will link the east and west sides of town at Hawthorne Ave. Don’t get too excited yet, though, as construction isn’t slated to begin until 2026, with an anticipated completion date of sometime in 2027.

BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

🌯 Who needs Yelp when we have Chris

If you’re anything like me, you’ve woken up on a random Tuesday morning craving a breakfast burrito. While residents of most cities are stuck with lame sites like Google or Yelp to find the best options, here in Bend, we have Chris.

Christ Coyier is a dude who loves breakfast burritos. So much so that he tried virtually every one in town and created an entire website to rank them.

While I may not agree 100% with the rankings, they are pretty darn informative. The fact that he even included McDonald's and Burger King shows that he was willing to risk it all for the most comprehensive rankings possible.

So next time you need your breakfast burrito fix, go give it a looksie.

LOCAL LOWDOWN

Tuesday

🤘 Metal rolls into town: Story time: the first time I was in a car with a CD player (yes, I’m old), I put on Megadeth’s album Countdown to Extinction. My parents were not impressed and quickly turned it off. But now we can relive the glory days of 1995-ish with Megadeth headlining at the Hayden Homes Amphitheater. So dig deep into the dresser drawers for your favorite band t-shirt and headbang the night away. Chiropractors around town are sure to be rejoicing at the idea of a sudden influx of 40-something-year-old patients. 6 PM Hayden Homes Amphitheater

Wednesday

🧺 Downtown farmers market: Chile pepper season is in full swing, which means it's time to whip up one of my favorite recipes of the year. Head down to the market to grab some locally raised pork shoulder, onions, garlic, cilantro, tomatillos, and a whole load of chile peppers (I also stop by Market of Choice or Safeway as well to grab a bag of Hatch chiles) and make up a batch of Pork Chile Verde. 11 AM - 3 PM NW Brooks St

🧒 Storytime of the littles: Roundabout Books is hosting their twice monthly story time for kids ages 0 - 5 years old. Join along for 30 minutes of stories and movements. 10:30 - 11 AM 900 NW Mount Washington Dr

Thursday

🏙️ Come hang with the city: City councilors, that is. The city of Bend is hosting an event at Bevel Craft Brewing, and you are all invited. This family-friendly event will feature a speech from our esteemed mayor, plus activities like tours of police, fire, and street vehicles, food and beverages, and live music. 4 - 7 PM Bevel Craft Brewing

🍻 Localized at Immersion Brewing: The event has been postponed 😢

⛳️ Birdies for Bend: If you’re going to be knocking a sleeve of balls into the drink anyways, you might as well do it for a good cause. Birdies for Bend is kicking off their 3rd annual golf event that raises money for local causes. So pack up your clubs and head over to Lost Tracks Golf Course, where even if the putts aren’t dropping, at least you know that at least the beer will be cold. 60205 Sunset View Drive

BEND OUTDOOR GUIDE

💫 The final piece of the trail puzzle

The annual late summer opening of the Middle Flagline mountain bike trail takes place on Thursday, August 15th. While Middle Flagline is technically a 2-way trail, it sees A LOT of downhill traffic from shuttle riders, so it’s best to find alternate routes if you’re looking to head uphill.

This is prime season for biking the area’s alpine routes, as the mosquitos are finally starting to quiet down. So head up to Dutchman and explore some of Bend's most beautiful biking.
