A Bendite is headed to the Olympics, the city shuts down Flock cameras, and help pick the next Jubelale artist

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Bend! It was a rough weekend for fans of Oregon football, but how about them Bears (I don’t get to say that often, so I gotta grab the opportunity when it arises).

In today’s Bend Buzz:

  • ⛷️ Bend has an Olympian

  • 📷️ City shuts down Flock cameras

  • 👩‍🎨 Help pick the next Jubelale artist

Let’s get to it.

🥇 Bend’s Hunter Hess is Headed to the Olympics

We’ve got a little less than four weeks until the Winter Olympics kick off in Italy, and Bend will officially be represented on the slopes. Halfpipe skier Hunter Hess made the team after finishing second at the U.S. Grand Prix in Colorado. Hopefully his events don’t take place at too ungodly of an hour, given the nine-hour time difference.

🎦 Bend Shuts Down Flock Cameras

The City of Bend has chosen to end the use of Flock cameras five months ahead of schedule. The cameras were installed along Highway 97 on both the north end and south end of town and were used to read license plates of passing traffic. They cited privacy concerns from citizens as the primary driver behind the decision.

🍽️ Dinner Signups Close Today

There are only a few hours left to sign up for our second dinner club happening on Wednesday evening at 6 PM. Want to join and make a few new friends? We match up folks at tables of six and send them to a downtown restaurant. After dinner, everyone has the option to then meet up for drinks at a local watering hole. You can sign up here to join in on the fun.

🎸 RendezVan Music Lineup Drops

Another week, another lineup drop for a spring music fest. This time it's for the largest van gathering/skiing weekend/party at Mt. Bachelor, RendezVan. You can check out the full lineup here and we’ll keep you up to date on when tickets/camping spots go live, as they always sell out in a flash.

⛷️ Tour of Meissner Postponed Until March 1st

Due to low snow conditions (and a potentially very warm week ahead), the Tour of Meissner has been postponed until March 1st. This classic-only race takes competitors on either a 17km or 30km course throughout the Meissner trail system. So if you’ve been a little lax on your training, this gives you some extra time to prepare for the race!

BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

🪑 A note about Furnish Hope: A week or so ago, we shared the news that consignment store Roundabouts Home Consignments was closing for the foreseeable future. After the email went out, I received a note from the folks at Furnish Hope, asking if we could help spread the word.

Their store, located at 50 Scott St., features gently used, designer furniture donated by locals to help fund the mission of Furnish Hope, which provides and delivers free bedding, furniture, and housewares to families in need throughout Central Oregon.

They also encourage folks to donate unneeded furnishings & other home goods in any serviceable condition to the Furnish Hope warehouse on 9th St., or by requesting a home pick up online. You can learn more here.

❄️ Help pick the next Jubelale artist: You’re likely familiar with Deschutes’ Jubelale, their festive winter ale that is released every fall/winter. What you may not know is that every year, the bottles feature the work of a different local artist. This year, they’re changing things up a bit and letting you have a say in who will design this year’s bottle art. Head over to the Deschutes Brewing website to see the potential artists and select your favorite.

WEEKEND PREVIEW

🎨 Friday is a choose-your-own-adventure kind of day. Ease in with creativity at The Art of Tea: Iris Folding Paper Creations, or dive into motion magic at Stop Motion: Finger Skateboard Edition. Families can bundle up for Snowflakes & Storytime at Skyliner Sno-Park, while shoppers hunt for one-of-a-kind finds at Vintage Rendezvous at Crux. As evening hits, the vibes split beautifully: drop inward at Returning to Center for a grounding, reflective reset, or head straight into social mode. Dirty Minds Trivia: Roast of 2025 brings the laughs, the sass, and zero mercy for the year that was, while Open Jam at Silver Moon keeps things loose, loud, and collaborative.

🌕 Saturday balances sparkle, introspection, and big energy. Start your day at the Cascades Wedding Show—even if you’re just there for inspo and champagne dreams—or wait for dusk and experience the magic of January Luminaria at Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center, where candlelit trails turn winter into something straight out of a snow globe. The night offers two strong paths: gather in reflection at the Community Moon Gathering for intention-setting and connection, or go full contrast with Adam Carolla at Midtown Ballroom for unapologetic, laugh-out-loud stand-up. Grounded or rowdy? Dealer’s choice.

⛷️ Sunday is all about slowing down—then ending strong. Get hands-on and earthy at the Natural & Botanical Dyes Workshop, or head to the mountain for golden-hour magic on a Sunset Snowshoe Tour. When night falls, glide under the stars at Sunday Night Glide at Meissner Sno-Park—free rentals included—or head indoors for Comedy Night with Steven Farmer at The Barrel Room for a final round of laughs before Monday.

🎶 Live Music: Bend’s music scene is stacked this weekend. Friday brings Eric Leadbetter at Ponch’s Place, groove-forward jams from Switchback at Silver Moon, and a nostalgia-packed night with The Traveling Wilbury’s Review at Tower Theatre. Saturday heats up with Ron Artis II with Cousin Curtiss at Tower, Diamond Saints at Volcanic Theatre Pub, and high-energy sets from DFI at Silver Moon. Sunday, wind things down with Keller Williams taking the Tower Theatre stage. From intimate acoustics to full-on rock energy, there’s a show for every vibe.
