TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Bend! Two big pieces of business news to share today with both Base Camp (the new food cart pod at Powder House) and Way West (the collab between Bend Brewing and Sisters Smokehouse at Jackstraw) opening their doors.

In today’s Bend Buzz:

  • 🍷 Sip and sample at Cork & Barrel

  • 🚚 Base Camp food cart pod opens

  • 🦋 Butterflies are back in the high country

Let’s get to it.

Recycling comes last! Contrary to popular belief, recycling isn't the first solution—it's one of the last. Before tossing something in the recycling bin, ask yourself if it can be reused, repurposed, repaired, or given to someone else. Glass jars can become storage containers, takeout tubs can organize odds and ends, and many items can find a second life through donation or sharing. If you've exhausted those options, it's time to recycle.

Recycling is important, but reducing waste is much more impactful. Learn more at the Rethink Waste Info Hub.

🍷 Cork & Barrel Brings Sonoma to Bend

It’s time for the annual wine festival, Cork & Barrel, to return to the athletic fields at COCC. This three-day event features top-notch food, wines from the Sonoma region, and, best of all, proceeds go towards KIDS Center, a local charity that helps children and families impacted by abuse. You can still grab tickets to Sip, the wine tasting party on Saturday, and Grand Cru, the dinner + wine + auction event on Sunday.

🦋 California Tortoiseshell Butterflies are back in the High Country

Anyone who visited the high country around Bend last summer may have noticed a remarkable number of butterflies fluttering about. Like, A LOT of butterflies. These butterflies are the California Tortoiseshell (they’re commonly mistaken for monarchs), and they live in our high alpine environments. And like last year, they’re back in huge numbers once again. So if you missed your chance last year, hit the trails and check them out before they’re gone.

🔥 Wildfire Season is Here

Well, these past few days have been a very sobering reminder of just how quickly things can change with fire season. Looking at the statewide map a week ago, it was shockingly devoid of wildfire activity around the state. But that has changed in a big way with the lightning storm that passed through on Wednesday. Significant fires have broken out seemingly all around us, and the smoke is sure to follow.

It’s a bummer that we have to discuss this so much, but if you’d like to stay up to date on wildfire activity, I’d recommend signing up for alerts at centraloregonfire.org and/or downloading the Watch Duty app.

BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

🍖 The Way West opens at Jackstraw: The Way West, a collab restaurant/butcher shop between Sisters Smokehouse and Bend Brewing Co., opened their doors yesterday at the Jackstraw building. Here you can grab lunch or dinner, enjoy a drink on the patio, or pick up some meat from Sisters Smokehouse.

🍔 Base Camp food cart pod opens: Bend’s newest food cart pod officially opens for business tomorrow (Saturday) at 9 AM. We took a tour of the new space behind Powder House earlier this week, and it’s going to be a great addition to the food cart and entertainment scene in Bend. The space has 12 food carts, a full bar, indoor and outdoor seating (including covered seating), and an upstairs entertainment space (it’ll be open to the public most of the time) with pool tables and a big screen.

🛥 Midtown Yacht Club celebrates six years: One food cart pod opens, and another celebrates its sixth anniversary! Swing by the Midtown Yacht Club on Sunday to say congrats, browse the wares from local popups, enjoy some live music, and take advantage of happy hour pricing all day long.

🍜 IndoDaddy food cart closing: On Wednesday, we shared two new food carts that opened at Ballers & Brews, and today we’re sharing the news that one is closing. IndoDaddy posted on Instagram that, due to unforeseen circumstances, they will be closing up shop as soon as they sell out of their existing inventory.

🎣 Want to own a lakeside general store?: Ever dreamed of spending your summers lakeside selling cold drinks and fishing lures to anglers? Here’s your chance, as the Three Creek Lake general store is for sale for the low price of just $250,000.

TOGETHER WITH HEKA HEALING

Your practitioner has been the patient

Before opening Heka Healing, Andi spent years as the person on the table. Chronic pain, old injuries, every traditional treatment Bend and beyond had to offer, but always with inconsistent results.

High-Intensity Laser and Shockwave therapy changed that. Not masking pain, actually recovering.

That experience shapes every treatment plan at Heka Healing. If you're dealing with chronic issues, such as lower back pain, we can find the real cause first. Build the plan around it. Use the tools that work.
