TOGETHER WITH
Good morning, Bend! I try to keep a positive spin with the newsletter, but it’s been tough this week with all the fires breaking out across Central Oregon. Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by these blazes, and we hope that our firefighters can keep things from getting worse.
In today’s Bend Buzz:
🎈 Balloons Over Bend
🎉 Grand openings & anniversary parties
🚌 Bus to the airport coming soon?
Let’s get to it.

🚌 Bus to the airport in the works?
Tired of paying surge fares to take an Uber to the airport? A new lower-cost option is in the works as Cascade East Transit (the group that runs the buses around town) is looking at adding an hourly service that will run from the Hawthorne Station to the airport between 4 AM and 1 PM, 5 days-a-week. The group is working through the logistics, so more to come on when (and if) the service begins.
🎈 Balloons Over Bend Launches this Morning
One of Bend’s favorite summer events kicks off, well, right now actually (provided the winds are in the balloon’s favor). Balloons Over Bend brings daily sunrise launches starting this morning and running through Sunday from RE Jewell Elementary School. The setup usually begins around 6 AM, and launches are planned for 6:45 - 7 AM.
This evening (Friday) is also the night glow celebration at COCC. Here you can see the balloons up close, participate in the kids’ blast balloon race, listen to live music, browse local vendors, and enjoy some tasty food on the lawn. Saturday, the party is moving up to Redmond with the Redmond Brewfest and night glow at American Legion Park.
🍽 Local Businesses Lending A Helping Hand
This list is by no means comprehensive, and I’ll provide updates over the coming weeks, but here are a few places that we’ve seen publicly offer help to firefighters and those displaced by the fires around Central Oregon.
Luckey’s Woodsman and Lazy Z Ranch Wines are hosting a pig roast and have set up a fundraising page.
Dear Mom Cafe is offering free meals to firefighters and those displaced by the fires
Sisters Athletic Club is offering free showers and wifi to those displaced by the fires
This post on Facebook outlined a number of good options if you’d like to donate or lend a hand directly
