TOGETHER WITH
Good morning, Bend! I hope everyone had a good holiday weekend! It looks like Pilot Butte caught on fire (thanks to Barron Sawyer for the video!) a bit more than usual, but luckily, the fire department was on hand and got it under control.
In today’s Bend Buzz:
🚗 Free parking at state parks
⚽ World Cup watch parties
🛏 Trailhead Lodge opens
Let’s get to it.

SPONSORED BY DESCHUTES PUBLIC LIBRARY
There are hundreds of events, classes, story times, and more happening at your libraries every month—and they’re all free!
Be sure to pick up an Events guide or check out the Deschutes Public Library online calendar to keep up with all that’s happening at the new Central Library in Bend and beyond.
New this month: a seed library! Every Thursday in July and August, we’re providing space for the community to share and explore new seeds. Visit the Central Library between 1:00 and 6:00 p.m. on July 11 to pick up some seeds or donate some of your own (view guidelines here).
You’ll also find great programs just for kids, fun activities and discussions for teens, and a variety of events and classes for adults. We’re even watching some World Cup matches together—join us at noon on July 14 at the Central Library for a semi-final match. We hope to see you at the library!

🚗 Get Free Parking at State Parks from the Library
Want to head out to Smith Rock (or any other state park in Oregon) and want to save a few bucks on parking? Well then, I’ve got a deal for you! Actually, I don’t have a deal, but the library does! Libraries across the state, including ours here in Bend, now have state park parking passes that can be loaned out. This is on top of the outdoor books, hiking poles, and wilderness permits for hikes around the Central Cascades (although these pretty much disappear the minute they are released) that you can pick up at the library for FREE.
🗳 Best of Central Oregon Voting is Open
Voting for The Source’s annual Best of Central Oregon awards is officially open for 2026. Once again, they have snubbed us by declining to include a best newsletter category. Oh well, maybe next year! But if you want to nominate or vote for your favorite hairdresser, budtender, IPA, matcha, or other business, you can do so here.
⚽ Team USA Watch Parties
As expected, Team USA is rolling through the World Cup and showing the domination that American soccer is so well known for…ok, maybe that’s not quite true. Regardless, we’re in the round of 16, and the USA will be taking on Belgium on Monday at 5 PM in Seattle. Want to catch the game with some fellow Team USA fans? We’ve heard the watch parties have been pretty great so far at Bend Brewing Co (get there EARLY for this one, as it’s probably the most popular in town), Century Center (Commonwealth Pub, Prost & Goodlife), 10 Barrel East, and Cafe Sintra.
🚧 Westbound Franklin Between 3rd & 4th St Closed Through July
The westbound lane of Franklin Ave between 3rd & 4th St (this is the stretch next to Safeway) will be closed starting today through the end of July. You can check out the City of Bend website for more info on the closure, including timelines and detours.
BUSINESS HAPPENINGS
🛏 Trailhead Lodge Opens: LOGE is out, and Trailhead Lodge is in. Mt. Bachelor has opened the doors to their first hotel as they have taken over management of the old LOGE space and reopened as Trailhead Lodge. You can expect the same great trail access, pool, bar, and lodging as before. It’ll also serve as the basecamp for passholder parties, outdoor concerts, yoga classes, and Aprés gatherings.
🍔 Old Shari’s space to turn into…: A new McDonald’s. Hope you all didn’t have your hopes up for something a little more exciting. This would be the 5th McDonald’s in Bend. And that’s all I have to say about that.
🏒 Dedicated ice facility coming to Bend?: Aaaaand in more exciting business news. It was announced last week that a local group is looking to bring a dedicated indoor ice facility to Bend! The Forge would offer two year-round ice sheets, spectator seating, food & beverage service, training space, a pro shop, and more. They haven’t announced a timeline or location yet, but we’ll let you know once those details are released.
