🦫 Manzanita Ridge Park opens in NW Bend

Bend’s newest park & playground, Manazita Ridge Park, is officially open in the Shevlin Ridge neighborhood in NW Bend. We checked out the 3.5-acre park over the weekend, and the highlight was definitely the giant beaver that provides a spot for kids to climb, slide, and build. The playground also features what might be the tallest slide in town.

🚧 Cascade Lakes Highway to Close November 18th

One of the most frequent questions in local Facebook groups this time of year is whether the Cascade Lakes Highway or the road to Paulina Lake is still open. On second thought, maybe it’s folks asking what that boom was, but this one is a close second! If you’ve been asking, here’s your answer. ODOT & Deschutes County announced that the roads will be closing for the season on November 18th. Other gates of note, while we’re at it. McKenzie Pass is closing by November 6th, and the gate to Tumalo Falls is still open for the time being.

🥕 HDFFA Raising funds for Fill Your Pantry

The High Desert Food & Farm Alliance (HDFFA) is raising funds for the upcoming Fill Your Pantry event, and they need your help. They are looking to raise $15,000 before Saturday’s event to ensure that folks in need have access to healthy, locally grown food at no cost, while also giving local farmers and food producers the support they need to thrive.

BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

🧺 Farewell Market opening November 22nd: Big news for residents on the south side of town (especially those along Brookswood) as Farewell Market has announced they will be opening on November 22nd. The grocery store in Brookswood Plaza will be replacing C.E. Lovejoys, which closed 9 months ago. The new market will focus on locally sourced goods and will feature a café serving house-made soups, salads, sandwiches, and baked goods.

🍜 Galley is launching on Tuesday: The space formerly occupied by Longboard Louie’s on the east side of Bend is now home to a new Asian fusion restaurant called Galley. Their soft opening is taking place on Tuesday for lunch and dinner service. More to come on regular hours, menu, etc.

🤖 Jia adds a robot server to the team: We normally reserve this space for business openings, closings, and anniversaries, but this is kind of a fun story. Jia Asian Street Kitchen has added a robot server to the team, a first for Central Oregon. We visited a Korean restaurant in Portland last year that had one of these, and it was certainly a fun novelty, especially for the kids.
