🚧 A major intersection reopens

A busy downtown intersection reopens, Bend Brews & Beyond comes to Drake Park, and ski season comes to an end

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Bend! So long ski season. Welcome back, tourist season.

In today’s Bend Buzz:

  • 🍻 Bend Brews & Beyond comes to Drake Park

  • ⛷️ Ski season slides to an end

  • 🚧 A busy downtown intersection reopens

Let’s get to it.

— Derek Carlson

Did you know that for every garbage bag you take out, 70 bags of garbage is created in the production of that stuff? For example, making one t-shirt uses as much water as a person consumes over two years!

While the process of creating the products we consume is largely hidden, the impacts aren’t. It’s estimated to contribute half of all emissions and over 90% of biodiversity loss and water stress.

Here are a few ways we can help you change that:

🥏 Join an ultimate team

Stretch out those hamstrings and brush off those ultimate frisbee skills that have been lying dormant since college. The Bend Ultimate league is kicking off their summer season on June 16th, and signups are taking place now. You can join teams as a group or as an individual.

🚧 Olney & Wall intersection opening

Commuters rejoice as the Olney and Wall intersection is opening TODAY (Friday). Also opening on Friday will be Portland Ave, which should help take some of the pressure off of Newport. The only stretch of road that will remain closed through the summer will be Olney from Wall to 2nd St.

⛷️ Mt. Bachelor season sendoff

Ski season officially comes to a close this weekend as Mt. Bachelor is throwing its season-end party. Events and live music will be taking place all weekend, with the highlight being the pond skimming competition on Sunday. You can find the full event lineup here.

BUSINESS HAPPENINGS

🍺 Immersion is out, UPP liquids is in: Big changes are in store for the Bend brewery scene as Immersion Brewing, as we know it, is on its way out. In its place is a new venture led by the former, highly acclaimed brewing team at 10 Barrel. The full transition is slated to take place in June, but you can supposedly already find some of UPP’s new beers around town. The new company will be brewing up beer along with seltzers, packaged cocktails, and ciders.

🍻 Bend Brews & Beyond takes over Drake Park: The Bend Brewfest bit the dust, but rising up from the ashes in its place is a reimagined version with Bend Brews & Beyond. This beerfest for the 21st century will feature beer as well as cider, non-alcoholic beer, hop water, kombucha, cold brew, and beyond. The event takes place on Saturday and Sunday.

TOGETHER WITH FALLING LEAF TREE CARE

🔥 Wildfire Season Is Coming—Is Your Yard Ready?

Bend has already seen a few smoky mornings, and it’s only May. Wildfire season is approaching, the City is cracking down on defensible space rules, and fines for non-compliance are no joke 😬

If clearing brush, trimming trees, and creating defensible space feels overwhelming, give Scott at Falling Leaf Tree Care a call. He’s a licensed arborist and contractor who’s been helping Bend families stay safe (and ski better, he’s also a longtime Mt. Bachelor ski instructor).

Scott has availability this week for consultations, so don’t wait until the smoke rolls in or the city comes knocking. Get on his calendar today.
